Subject : Fife Pass

Just a brief note to acknowledge having received the First in Fife golfpass monies from Syd, Ken, Colin, Henry, Mac, David and Ian G.

I will send the order on Monday and distribute your passes as soon as they come to hand.

There is still time for the remaining members Alan, Gael and Tim to join the group purchase.  I am assuming however that they have decided to get their passes when we get to Pitreavie.

See you all, some of you or whatever tomorrow, weather permitting.

Ian

Subject: Cars and Rooms

A draw for 'rooming' was carried out by the 3 musketeers i.e. Alan, Syd and Ian S at the snooker tonight.  The results were:

Syd & Mac
Henry & Ian S
Tim & Alan
Colin & Ian G
Gael & Ken

Honest it was a straight draw.

On cars:

Colin has indicated that he will take Henry and Ian G;

Alan & Syd have said they will sort things out with Tim;

Which leaves Ian S, Mac, Gael and Ken.  Since that suggests we need more than 1 car I will take Mac (asking Mac as an Edinburgh member to pick up Haddington members does not seem sensible) and leaves Gael & Ken to toss for who takes the final car.

Any problems with the above please let me know although I do not promise to do anything about it.

Ian

Attached is the final version of the outing details for 2007.

I have confirmed the courses, tee times and also the hotel.  Left to do are the purchase of the Golf Passes, the 'sleep with' draw and the transport arrangements.  For the first cheques/cash to me not later than 31 March;  for the second this will be dealt with at a snooker evening sometime soon; and as for the last I am sure we will work out something.

Just by the way I wonder why some members have an e-mail address as they rarely seem to access their mail.

See you all soon

Ian

Friday 4 May         - Burntisland Golf Club – 09.30 and 2.30

Green fees:

The Secretary at Thornton has come back to me and indicated that instead of £17 and a voucher for 2 rounds the cost will in fact be £10 and a voucher.  Given this information the First in Fife Golf Pass (valid for 5 rounds) is the better option giving a total cost of £95.  I have arranged with the Hotel Administrator at the Aberdour Hotel that she will complete the paperwork for the passes and post these out to us in advance of our visit.  This will save time at our first venue.  The cost of the Golf Pass is £85 and given the discussions with the Aberdour Hotel need not be paid until end March. Cheques or cash  to me by then.

So far we have not been required to pay any deposit for the golf as we are to use the Golf Pass.

Hotel:

I have booked the Aberdour Hotel on a DB&B basis.  The cost will be £90.00 per room/night for Dinner, Bed and Breakfast (a special deal based on two night stay and two people sharing).  A deposit of £10 per person has been paid.  I have also agreed to let the hotel have a ‘rooming list’ to avoid the usual mêlée at check-in so we will need to do the ‘sleep with’ draw at some time in the next few weeks.

Cars

Volunteers required or we will have a draw.  We could, of course, use our bus passes!!

further Update 17th January 2007 :

While I still await quite a number of responses to my e-mail of yesterday I intend to finalise things today on the basis of the attached note unless I hear serious ructions.

If we use the First in Fife Golf Pass we do not need to pay the Clubs a deposit to reserve the tee times but see my comment on buying the passes in the attachment.  I suggest we set a date of getting your £85 to me not later than Sunday 25 February.  I will then arrange for the purchase of the passes at Pitreavie Golf Club who will hold them for our arrival.  That way it will seem like a cheap outing with only a £10 payment to be made at Thornton.  Should anyone not wish to participate in this arrangement then they can, of course, arrange for the purchase of their Golf Pass direct from the Tourist Office, over the web, any of the participating Golf Clubs or the accommodation partners.

The tee times at Thornton are a little later than I would have liked.  However sunset is not until 20.55 so time should not be a problem.  It will allow us a leisurely breakfast if nothing else.

The hotel requires a deposit of £10 per person and that I require a.s.a.p. and not later than after golf on Sunday.  I thought we would do the sleep draw sometime soon and in an attempt to ease the checking in let the hotel know before we arrive so that they can do some of the paperwork in advance.  That is a minor detail however.

If I have missed anything then I am sure someone will let me know.

Ian

Update 17th January 2007

I understand that the weather on Sunday delayed the distribution of the First in Fife Golf Pass leaflets.  Perhaps they will make it next week unless, of course, everything is done and dusted by then.

The plan so far:

I have a provisional booking at the Aberdour Hotel www.aberdourhotel.co.uk which seems to have good write ups and real ales - need I say more!  It seems to cater for golf parties so should not be surprised by our motley crew.  The offer is either £37.50 per person B&B or £45 DB&B.  The menu seems to have something to suit most and looks fairly straightforward cooking.  Have a look at the website and see what you think.  I need to know how many are interested in the B&B deal and how many in the full Monty.  What I do with that information I have yet to work out.  To confirm the booking deposits of £10 per person would be required.

I have also a provisional booking at the Kingswood Hotel, Burntisland which comes in at £40 per person B&B or £50 DB&B.  They should get back to me tonight/tomorrow.  Their website is www.kingswoodhotel.co.uk and offers a different alternative to the Aberdour.  No menus on the website so can't judge what the food is like but if the write up is anything to go by I suspect it is a little better but perhaps they just have good copywriters.  Again I would need to know how many are interested in the B&B deal and how many in the full Monty.

For the golf I am awaiting confirmation from Pitreavie (just over the Bridge) for the Wednesday and Thornton for the Thursday.  I have a confirmed booking for Burntisland for Friday.  Using the GolfPass looks like a total cost of £102, while pay on the day looks like £105.50.  The GolfPass needs the payment of £85 in advance with a further £17 when we play at Thornton.

I have spoken to Dave who confirms he will be coming along on the Friday and may even consider giving the whole thing a try!!

As I do not have Colin's e-mail address he is missing from this circular.  Perhaps Alan could let me have it.

Comments, constructive, are welcome.

My intention is to complete all bookings on Wednesday, assuming the golf clubs respond before then.

Ian

Planning is underway for the 2007 outing and I need to know who is coming.

The suggestion is to golf in Fife using the First in Fife Golf Pass which allows 5 rounds for £85; not all clubs in Fife are members of the scheme.  Brochures covering the scheme should be here in the next day or so and may be available for next Sunday.  I have made contact with the following clubs:

Aberdour
Canmore
Burntisland
Thornton
Pitreavie
Dunfermline
Kirkcaldy

I have also made contact with the following hotels:

Crusoe
Dunniker House
Keavil House
Pitbauchlie
Kingswood
Crawsnest
Woodside
Cedar Inn
Aberdour

Which hotel we might go for will depend on the grouping of the courses.

Based on the responses to date the 6th round of golf should cost no more than £25 but might be only £17; and the average hotel cost seems to be £35 per person per night B&B.  DB&B is on offer at one hotel for £45 per person per night.

Can you forward this to everyone with an urgent plea for responses.
